Virtual Magnifying Glass – Like the name Says
When you need to take a closer look at a physical object, say a piece of paper, you can take out your trusty magnifying glass – don’t know why, but the image of Sherlock Holmes and his magnifying glass comes to mind when saying that. What do you do when you don’t have a physical object, when you have a virtual one? Why you use a virtual magnifying glass.
To be more precise, you get a piece of software that acts like a virtual magnifying glass. Such an application is the aptly named Virtual Magnifying Glass. It is an open source, screen magnification tool that puts a movable magnifying glass on the screen. You can move that magnifying glass anywhere you want on the screen and get a better picture of what’s under the magnifying glass.
There are, as far as I see it, two reasons why you would want to get the Virtual Magnifying Glass application:
- You need to magnify part of the screen for some reason and you want a free, easy to use application.
- You have a visual impairment and you need to magnify part of the screen and, again, you need a free, easy to use application.
Before you get Virtual Magnifying Glass and put it the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 2.4MB, which isn’t that much. The download will complete in no time at all, even if you have a less than spectacular internet connection.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Virtual Magnifying Glass works with Windows Vista, 2003, XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98 or 95. There’s also a Mac version that works with Mac OS X 10.4 or newer. Last but not least, there’s a Linux version.
Limitations – there are none. As mentioned above, Virtual Magnifying glass is a free, open source application.
Virtual Magnifying Glass is free, it’s easy to use, it’s useful, and it’s waiting for you to give it a try.
Pros
Cons
